McDonald's to upsize in Asia
A new McDonald's store opens somewhere in China every 36 hours, MAC Managing Director Frank Carbone told Australian media. MAC, or the McDonald's Asia Pacific Consortium, is the Australian and New Zealand meat supplier to the giant fast food company's restaurants in Asia Pacific. Owned by five North American McDonald's beef patties manufacturers and based in Australia, MAC bought and processed 110,000 tonnes of beef last year. McDonald's plans to open 3100 restaurants in the Asia Pacific/Middle East/Africa region by 2014, including 1050 in China and 540 in Japan. It opened 1000 restaurants globally in 2011 and spent USD 3.8 billion on beef.
